Definition
A gland is an organ of varying size whose role is to manufacture various bodily substances. The liver, for example, is a very important gland for digestion. It secretes bile, a liquid that helps absorb dietary fat. Salivary glands deliver saliva into the mouth. As a final example, sweat glands, present everywhere under the skin, excrete sweat. This phenomenon lowers body temperature.
